Principal Dunn Update - September 24, 2023
Posted on 09/24/2023

Saludos communidad de CCE,

This week, CCE will be participating in La semana de Seguridad, Safety Week, where staff and students will be trained on emergency protocols and various drills on campus. Our staff has found that it is best if you discuss the drills listed below with your child AFTER they take place. Most often, when parents have tried to prepare their children for school safety drills by discussing them ahead of time at home, the children create frightening scenarios which they may share with peers at school.

For this reason, CCE staff prioritize explaining/practicing the context of emergency procedures with their students first, then actually practicing in the drill schoolwide helps children immensely. The children realize that it isn’t scary after all and that practicing safety drills is a necessary precaution.

Please visit our DJUSD website here to learn more about the types of actions a school might take in the event of an emergency.

Update

Emergency Communication Test This Week

Each year, DJUSD performs a test of the Emergency Communication System. The school district will send out a TEST of our Emergency Communication System to the phone numbers, emails and mobile numbers (via text) for parent/guardian contacts for each of our students. The purpose of that “Test Message” is to ensure our parent community understands how, and in what form, they will receive messages in the event of a real emergency and to identify potential gaps in emergency data that can then be addressed in advance of a possible urgent event.

Opt in to Text Messages for Text Messaging from DJUSD
If you are new to our school or the school district, or you haven’t already opted in to receive District text alerts, please consider doing so by texting Y or Yes 67587 from a mobile phone number on record with your student information (on record with our office/included in your online re-enrollment). Learn more about District Emergency Text Alerts and Text Messaging at http://www.djusd.net/txtmsg

Save the DJUSD Auto-Call System Number to Your Favorites

As a reminder, all important automated school communications and emergency alerts sent through our SchoolMessenger system will be sent from the number 1-877-539-7855. If you call this number back, you are able to access any recent messages sent to you.

We encourage you to save this number in your Contacts or Caller ID as DJUSD Info/Alert. By doing this, you will recognize a DJUSD emergency alert or important message being sent to your phone from our school or school district.

If you have any questions, please contact our office, or reach out directly to the DJUSD Public Information Office at [email protected].

CCE Spanish Book Fair & Pajama Reading Night

Mark your calendars for these special school events!

Spanish Book Fair

Our school Library has organized a Spanish book fair with Lucia Rocha’s I Love To Read In Spanish company. This fair will be held as an opportunity for our school community to gain more access to high interest and quality Spanish books, therefore this is not a fundraiser, we will still hold our regular Scholastic book fairs in November for fundraising purposes. This event coincides with our annual Read-A-Thon fundraiser to support the Library, Circulo and SIPAT programs. We are supporting our love for reading in Spanish, and we welcome our community to join our passion with these October events!
