Dear CCE Families,
We strongly encourage all families to discuss and emphasize the importance of traffic safety with your students. We urge all students and our families to exercise caution, be vigilant, and prioritize safety as we head to the finish line of a great school year.
Arriving and Dismissing Safely Home:School:Home
- We respectfully ask that all students who walk, bike, or are driven to school, do not arrive at CCE before 8:10 a.m. There is no campus supervision before 8:10 a.m.
- Remind your student to always wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Helmets can greatly reduce the risk of severe head injuries in the event of a fall or collision. It's also a good idea to ensure that their bike is in good working order and has working lights and reflectors. California law states that everyone under 18 years old is required to wear a helmet.
- When walking or biking, it's important to follow traffic laws and signals. Make sure your student knows to always stop at stop signs, follow traffic signals, and to look both ways before crossing the street. Encourage them to use crosswalks and to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them. It is not only a matter of compliance, but also a point of success for our community to ensure that everyone, including bicyclists, follows the rules of the road.
- For drivers, it is important to always be aware of your surroundings and to watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists at the drop off/Loading Zones. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers, so be sure to treat them with respect. Drivers and bicyclists always use turn signals and hand signals.
- Drivers give plenty of room when passing a bicyclist on the road and remember, when making a right turn you need to position your vehicle as close as practicable to the right curb. Be patient and do not attempt to pass cars that are in line to drop off students at school.
Thank you for your CARES,
Sra. Dunn
