Cesar Chavez Elementary is committed to the health and safety of our students. In order to reduce the risk of spreading disease as well as the risk that children with food allergies will have an allergy-related event at school, the following guidelines have been assembled:
- Severe Allergies: If your child has a severe food allergy or bee sting allergy you will be asked to bring an epinephrine auto-injector to the school office along with an Allergy Action Plan and Medication Authorization Form. These forms must be signed by you and your child's doctor and renewed every year. Contact our school nurse if your child needs any precautions or accommodations in the classroom.
- Epi Pens: All school sites have stock Epi-pens on hand to respond to anaphylaxis in persons who do not have an Epi-pen on site or who have not been previously diagnosed with an allergy.
- Asthma: If your child requires an inhaler at school please bring the inhaler to the school office along with the Asthma Action Plan and the Medication Authorization Form. These forms must be signed by you and your child's doctor and renewed every year. Your child may carry the inhaler if they are able to safely self-administer the medication. Forms are still required when your child carries the inhaler.
- Sick Policy: If you suspect your child has a communicable disease, contact your health care provider. Our school nurse can help determine which diseases require exclusion from school or reporting to Yolo County Health and Human Services. School nurses work with the health department to monitor and manage communicable disease outbreaks and coordinate prevention programs. Please familiarize yourself with the Sick Policy if you are unsure about your child attending school
