I-Ready Diagnostic #3 Assessment

K-6 students will be taking the i-Ready Diagnostic #3 ELA & Math exams which will provide data important for planning and preparation for the upcoming school year. Teachers will inform their families the week they have scheduled this exam so caregivers can ensure students are able and ready to show off their growth and progress!

California Statewide Testing

Your child may be taking one or more of the following California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), and Physical Fitness Test assessments.

CAASPP: Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Math

Who takes these tests? Students in grades 3–8 and grade 11.

What is the test format? The Smarter Balanced assessments are computer-based.

Which standards are tested? The California Common Core State Standards.

CAASPP: California Science Test (CAST)

Who takes the test?
Students take the CAST in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school, either in grade 10, 11, or 12.

What is the test format? The CAST is computer-based.

Which standards are tested? The California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS).

ELPAC

Who takes the test? Students who have a home language survey that lists a language other than English will take the Initial test, which identifies students as an English learner student or as initially fluent in English. Students who are classified as English learner students will take the Summative ELPAC every year until they are reclassified as proficient in English.

What is the test format? Both the Initial and Summative ELPAC are computer-based.

Which standards are tested? The 2012 California English Language Development Standards.

CCE Bike Swap a Success!

Jill Bonner and Team received over 450 bike/bike related items and sold 361of them, making $11,999.35 for CCE and over $1,777 for participating schools! If you missed the event, a Bike Swap Clearance Sale will take place on Wednesday, April 24 on the CCE playground at 2-4pm. SO SPREAD THE WORD! We have about 60 bikes remaining - most of which will be priced at $20 or less. Kids bikes even lower!

Lobos Activos Finale

April is the last month for students in grades 1st-6th to participate in the Lobos Activos Tuesday and Thursday rotations of 1) Dance, 2) Garden, 3) Counselor lesson. And to celebrate another successful year of this wonderful school day program, Cassie Dias invited grade-levels to perform in front of their peers and families, Julia Pollex brought Bohart Museum stick bugs, and Sra. Ortiz and Srta. Ysabel engaged students in social-emotional learning art which will be part of the design of the new mural that will be painted outside of her classroom walls in May!

Thank you to Cassie, Julia, Sra. Ortiz, Srta. Ysabel, and all the Lobos Activos parent volunteers and SIPAT for helping sponsor this school day enrichment program that fosters CCE’s well-being and belonging.

DJUSD has announced that their Expanded Learning program will be offering two Supportive Partnerships & Active Recreation for Kids (S.P.A.R.K) in the 2024-2025 school year: 1) Kinder S.P.A.R.K, and 2) After School S.P.A.R.K. The Great Reading Challenge

This spring students in grades 4th-6th will have the opportunity to participate in our annual Great Reading Challenge event! Teams of 4-6 students will read six books and gather at the end of May in the MPR to demonstrate their knowledge of the books. The team that answers the most questions correctly will win a prize and be crowned the winners of the challenge! This is an exciting way to foster a lifelong love of reading for pleasure. Participation is optional. Students will learn about the Great Reading Challenge during their class library visit this week. More information will be sent home from your child’s teacher.

May 8th Bike Rodeo at CCE

Davis Police Department is hosting a bike rodeo at our school as part of our school’s bicycle skills program. With the help of volunteers, they will be conducting a Bike Rodeo on Wednesday, May 8. The bike rodeo is a simple and fun activity to teach your child important bicycle safety skills. The event consists of a number of stations that allow your child to learn and practice proper bicycling skills. In order for your child to participate, the following is required:
-You must review, sign, and return the attached release waiver by May 8 - Forms at the CCE Office.

-Children must bring their own bike, wear a bicycle helmet and shoes that fasten, no flip-flops allowed.
