Highlights

        100 days of school

100th Day of School

CCE students celebrated the 100th day of school, this year it was Monday, February 5.  Many students participated in fun art and math activities, while some completed a 100-day project which they presented to their peers, parents, and teachers.  It is also a special opportunity for students to reflect on all that they have learned this school year!

lunar new year

Lunar New Year

CCE students and teachers learned more about Lunar New Year, the rise of the second new moon after the winter solstice.  Students decorated their classrooms and many parents presented in their student’s classroom to share the traditions of the celebration of the lunisolar calendar-year of the dragon.

This is a night of family fun with music movement and storytelling for families of children grades K-5 (older/younger siblings welcome).  This event is sponsored by the Davis School Arts Foundation Grant, and hosted by our beloved CCE strings teacher, Sra. Cooley, and her friends from the Richards Institute of Education and Research.  See registration link and flyer here: Chavez ETM Family hour.docx

smart watch

Cell Phones and Smart Watches

It is important to share and remind our CCE parents and students of our elementary school policy regarding student cellphone or smart watch use during school hours. These devices have become very distracting for students to focus in the classroom. Thank you for your support with this.

  • Cell phones must be stored and turned off in backpacks during school hours.
  • Smart Phones may be worn, though the student should not access any watch apps or digital tools for use during the school day.
  • Students are not allowed to text or make calls during school hours using their cell phones or smart watch devices.  Students need to come to the office to call a parent or guardian.
  • Alarms must be turned off on cell phones and smart watches during the school day.
attendance matters

Attendance Matters in February

The month of February at CCE presents with higher volumes of student absences due to illness, as well as Short-Term Independent Study (STIS).  Therefore, we ask families to help out by contacting our front office staff and teachers each day your child will not be present at school due to illness or other reasons.  In addition, our office staff and teachers respectfully ask that you provide us at least two weeks or more in advance when initiating the STIS Request form to provide the teachers ample time to create and organize materials for your child during their STIS.   You may pick up a STIS form in the front office and you may access more DJUSD Attendance Initiative information on our district website.
