Principal Dunn Update - Set 3, 2023
Posted on 09/03/2023

Labor Day Greetings, CCE,

I hope you are having a great three-day weekend! A reminder that DJUSD schools are not in session tomorrow, Monday, September 4.

While California temperatures and air quality are fluctuating each day, CCE has plans in place when monitoring the rising temperatures and air quality each day/week. We are in good status with functioning HVAC units in each classroom/building, air purifying machine filters have been changed, and a modified school schedule to eat and play indoors or outdoors is implemented during these climate conditions. Parents and guardians should also contact your child’s teacher and school nurse, Angela ([email protected]) when your child is affected by air quality for sensitive groups so the teacher can modify outdoor activities. Students have access to eating and playing indoors or outdoors when AQI is just below or above the 150 thresholds. DJUSD and I will continue to send communication to you when our school implements these school day modifications.

Finally, thank you 1st-6th grade parents for arranging transportation specifically for Wednesdays which are early release days at 1:30 p.m. Supervision is not available after 1:45 p.m. We also appreciate families labeling your students' school items with their first initial and last name. The CCE Lost and Found is located down the 1st grade hallway by the bathrooms, and is available for families to peruse before arrival and after dismissal times. Staff also try to help distribute labeled water bottles, lunch boxes, and clothing items each week to our students.
Thank you for taking the time to read my Sunday updates.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday,

Sra. Dunn

Highlights

cooperacion

La semana de cooperación y adaptabilidad

The students and staff had a great week reviewing our first core-value “C” for cooperación, the process of working together on the same goal. Teachers have been re-teaching and providing positive reminders about making good choices that help others (and themselves) feel respected and safe at school. We will continue to practice, manos contigo, which means keeping our hands to ourselves and respecting personal space. This week we will focus on “A” for adaptabilidad, the quality of being able to adjust to new conditions; it’s willingness to be open to anything new.

Updates

CCE Webstore Donations

We are so grateful for the monetary contributions you offered to teachers this week to support field trips, grade-level projects, library, and science via our CCE Webstore. All DJUSD Schools host an online “webstore” to allow families and students to donate directly to school events, projects, clubs, and PE Equipment.

  • To create an account: Click My Account
  • Parents: CLICK NO when asked if you are a student
  • After you set up your account, you will be able to add your student with student ID

DJUSD 4th, 5th, & 6th Grade Music Program

CCE students attended an introductory music program assembly last week to introduce string instruments for 4th-6th, and band instruments for 5th-6th grade students. If your child is interested in participating, please fill out the ENROLLMENT FORM by September 12. Parents and guardians may attend one of two meeting dates that will be held on September 12 and 14th at DHS’s Brunelle Theaters. Interpreters will be available for the 9/12 meeting and can be accessed either on Zoom or in person. You may contact our music teachers, Strings-Lydia Cooley ([email protected]) or Band-Nancy Sanchez ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
