Principal Dunn Update - September 17, 2023
Posted on 09/18/2023

CCE Family,

This week is La semana de Empatía, Empathy Week, and our students and staff will continue to practice this core-value in class and in our school campus zones. The definition of empathy we use with our students is the following: Empatía is the ability to understand and share someone’s feelings; it is being emotionally connected to how others feel.
Heritage Month

At CCE students and staff also celebrate and recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept 15-October 15. Seven Latin American countries celebrate their independence: September 15th – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, September 16th – Mexico, and September 18th – Chile. Also, Día de la Raza occurs on October 12 within this 30-day period. You may hear about your student’s teacher introducing many multicultural projects and songs from these countries which they highlight over the next four weeks.

I apologize for the increase in announcements published below, and I appreciate you taking the time to read and learn about these exciting and upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Sra. Dunn

Highlights

Kelso's choice

Kelso’s Choices with School Counselor, Sra. Ortiz

Our school is so lucky to have, Sra. Ortiz, as our school counselor who comes with over 17 years of counseling experience. In her second year at CCE, she delivers K-3 social-emotional learning lessons utilizing the Kelso’s Choices curriculum to help students peacefully resolve small conflicts among themselves in social settings at school. She cleverly modifies Kelso’s Choices in 4th-6th grades by adapting the lessons with same messages and methods that are developmentally appropriate at each grade-level and calling them “conflict resolution strategies.” You can learn more about Ways to Reinforce Kelso’s Choices at home by visiting our DJUSD website here.
