Principal Dunn Update - January 14, 2024
Posted on 01/14/2024

Dear CCE Community,

During this 3-day, national holiday, Monday, January 15, we acknowledge the integrity of Martin Luther King, Jr. who dedicated his life to achieving equality and justice for Americans of all colors. He made brave sacrifices and inspired many with his activism for civil rights.

MLKJ

While Martin Luther King Jr. and César Chávez never met, I learned many years ago that they did communicate. During César Chávez’s 25-day fasting to affirm his commitment to nonviolence, he received a telegram from Dr. King that read “…My colleagues and I commend you for your bravery, salute you for your indefatigable work against poverty and injustice…

See you back at school on Tuesday, January 16,

Sra. Dunn

6th Grade Science Projects – Thermal Energy

Our sixth-grade science teacher, Sra. Bugni, facilitated a special thermal energy science unit for all 6th grade students this week. The students created hot air balloons and launched them from our playground! Many successful balloon launches travelled far and wide over our CCE neighbors’ yards LOL!

Updates

Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten registration is just around the corner, Monday, February 26, 2024! Younger siblings of CCE enrolled students, and any student eligible to attend DJUSD may register in our Kindergarten Spanish Language Immersion Program, regardless of language background. Students of varying abilities and needs contribute to the diversity of the community.

Parents should understand that becoming bilingual (exhibiting cognitive, academic, and linguistic benefits of immersion) takes approximately seven years in an intense learning environment. It is therefore desirable for students to participate through at least the sixth grade.
