It was an energetic start to the school year, and it was wonderful to meet and welcome our students, staff, and caregivers back to CCE!

Thank you for taking the time to read this “school site specific” CCE FAQ. The questions here are not comprehensive, though they are a compilation of three weeks of questions from our CCE school community. While DJUSD and CCE information is continually changing or being updated, please cross check the information with the DJUSD Website and DJUSD COVID-19 Website.

What time does school start and end?

How many bells ring in the morning?

There are three bells.

  • 8:10 a.m. First bell for CCE Staff supervision
  • 8:10 a.m. 8:23 a.m. Campus supervision: CCE staff supervise students in three locations (1) In front of the school by the office (2) lunch tables along Anderson, and (3) Hardcourt Area at the back of the school.
  • 8:23 a.m. Second bell (Pulsing Chimes): Prompts students to walk onto campus to their classrooms or line up at their classroom number.
  • 8:25 a.m. Third bell indicates that school day begins.

Are parents and caregivers allowed on campus?

For the safety of our students and staff, campus is closed to the public between 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Please contact our school counselor and principal if your child needs support during the drop off time. We are happy to support caregivers and students with a plan and helpful strategies.

Where are the CCE Zones where parents can wait with their student at drop off or pick up?

Zone 1: Bike Rack Area; back of the school southwest corner of campus

Zone 2: Redwood Park

Zone 3: Front of school; front of school office or Lunch Tables.

How do I report my student’s absence?

What if my child arrives on campus after 8:25 a.m.?

Safety is our #1 priority. Ensure your child walks on street and staff parking lot crosswalks to check into the school office. A supervisor will be located at the front and back of the school to help students onto campus. If a student walks straight to their classroom, the classroom teacher will prompt the student to check into the office.

Will I still receive an automated call if my child was marked absence during the day?

Yes.

  1. A morning call will go home at 10:35 a.m. to families of students marked absent.
  2. An afternoon call (for PM kindergartners absent) will go home at 1:35 p.m.
  3. Calls will NOT go out for a tardy.

What do I do if I know my child is going to be absent 3-10 consecutive days or more?

  1. Short-term Independent Study (STIS) does not start until September 7.
  2. STIS legally allows parents to take their student/s out of school shile school is in session, and for parents to supervise their child’s class work during the child’s absence from school.
  3. STIS is only approved for a leave between 3-10 school days per occurrence. The 3-10 days can be repeated throughout the school year if the leave does not impact student learning.

Can our student’s teacher simulcast if my child is absent for a day or during STIS/Travel?

DJUSD is currently offering In-Person Instruction for the 2021-22 school year. That is, CCE is not implementing a Hybrid Model at this time and teachers are not required to simulcast (Zoom in the room). At present DJUSD and our local Teacher Association are in constant communication and partnership to respond to teaching and learning conditions in our Davis/Yolo community.

What do I do if I know my child is going to be absent for an extensive period of time (11-15 days – AB130) during the school year?

Contact Davis School for Independent Study (DSIS) if Independent Travel Study would be appropriate. It is crucial that all work assigned during Short Term Independent Study (Independent Travel Study be completed and returned promptly when the student returns. Should I check myself, my student/s and other members in my household for signs/symptoms of illness before dropping off and picking up on campus?

Yes. If a student or staff member are having symptoms of illness, they are expected to stay home before school, or be released to go home immediately during the school day and/or on campus. Use the Daily Illness Screening Checklist to check your student for wellness every day before they come on campus. Ensure that a parent, guardian, or emergency contact is available to pick your child up from school in case of illness.

Who do I contact if our student has been exposed to someone with a confirmed base of COVID-19 or after a member in our household/or student receives a positive case of Covid?

Report any positive cases of COVID-19, or exposure to someone with a confirmed base of COVID-19 to the District’s COVID-19 reporting email at covid19reporting@djusd.net or call 530-757-5300. Be sure to provide your full name, student name, phone number and school site.

What should my child bring to school each day?

  • Water bottle; Water bottle filling stations available by office and playground. Students may also fill up water bottles at the classroom sink.
  • Daily Snack & Lunch Home or Free for DJUSD students; students do not need to enter their 5-digit student ID #.
  • Mask(s) or Face covering(s); required to wear a face covering indoors and outdoors. Exemptions for students with a medical condition as confirmed by their doctor. Child and Adult size surgical masks available in classrooms and office.
  • Chromebook; 3rd-6th graders only; teachers communicate classroom system and use for home or in-class instruction.(K-2nd grades each have a classroom set for student use).

Can students bring their own hand sanitizer?

Yes. DJUSD provides PPE, hand sanitizer and handwashing stations on campus for students and staff.

What day is CCE’s On-Campus Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing?

Fridays at CCE, Rm 21, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (11:40-12:25 closed for lunch)

Will all CCE students be required to test every Friday?

All CCE elementary students and staff who are registered with Healthy Davis Together https://healthydavistogether.org/testing/, in addition to the DJUSD Minor COVID Testing Waiver will have the opportunity to test on campus with their classroom. Teachers will have a schedule that coordinates with their grade-level breaks and lunch times to take their students for testing.

Do I also have to fill out a DJUSD Minor COVID Testing Waiver to take part in CCE’s On-Campus Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing on Fridays?

What happens if my child does not feel well at school?

  1. CCE Staff will visually assess students using the Classroom Visual Screening Flowchart.
  2. Teacher will notify office and student will be escorted by staff to a Health Screening Isolation Area (Eng) (Spa)near our school office.

What are the CCE lunch protocols?

DJUSD and CCE are making every effort to have students and staff eat outdoors unless there is poor air quality or sever inclement weather. Current Public health guidance allows students to eat lunch indoors with additional measures if possible. Outdoor shade and extra tables have been ordered to support both CCE’s outdoor eating and Outdoor Education learning Spaces.

Fair Weather Protocols

  • 1st-3rd grade (primary) eating Zone separate from 4th-6th grade (intermediate) eating Zone
  • Allergy Tables located at each zone
  • Staggered Snack/Lunch eating schedule
  • One primary grade & one intermediate grade at snack/lunch/recess Zone at a time
  • Classroom seating charts for snack/lunch tables
  • 5-6 students per table
  • Hula hoops also available for students to support increased social-distancing
  • Hand washing stations, PPE stations in each Eating Zone

Air Quality/Weather Protocols:

  • Alternate indoor space provided for 1st-6th grade students with allergies including an allergy tablebuddy system to accompany their classmate/s
  • Half students eat in classroom (or with rain under the awning) other half eat in the MPR at a classroom pod table
  • Students eating in classrooms and MPR will be supervised

 

Are parents & caregivers permitted to pick up their student during recess/lunch time?

Yes. Please call the CCE Office in advance if you will be picking up your student for mid-day recess/lunch. This will give staff time to prepare your student to be ready for their pickup. Moreover, the CCE expectation is that our parents & caregivers return their student for the afternoon instructional portion of the school day.

Will K-6th teacher use Canvas this school year?

Yes. Teachers will use Canvas as the adopted Learning Management System for all elementary students. Parents/guardians will assume the role of an “Observer” in Canvas so you have access to all of your student/s courses.

I’d like to volunteer, what is the process?
