Principal Update - October 17, 2021
Posted on 10/17/2021

Dear CCE Families,

graduate profile

The DJUSD Graduate Profile is the hallmark or “north star” for CCE.  It is the pathway to 21st Century Learning with specific outcomes to assure students have success in their elementary education and beyond. It is also a document that our school and district use to specify the cognitive, personal, and interpersonal competencies that students should have when they graduate high school in order to be successful in the 21st Century.

The six competencies are:

  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Civic & Cultural Awareness
  • Adaptability & Resilience
  • Collaboration
  • Communication

Our DJUSD Report Card will feature the Graduate Profile Competencies and K-6 teachers will report on their students’ growth and progress, in addition to Content Specific Performance Marks for this trimester.  Parent-Teacher Conferences will be virtual and conducted on Zoom during the week of Monday, November 15 – Friday, November 19.  1st-6th grade students will be dismissed each day at 1:30 p.m.  The Kindergarten AM and PM classes will be on a regular schedule.  We look forward to meeting with Parents next month!

Sincerely,

Sra. Dunn

Updates

Steel Delivery Next Week!

The construction entrance on the north side of CCE has a short turning radius for oversized delivery trucks to make the turn to deliver the Steel for the MPR structure.  Therefore, the south service road (fire lane) and playground will need to be accessed for the deliveries. Monday-Friday, the Landmark Construction Team will have flaggers and will help guide the truck through the blacktop and into our construction entrance to ensure the safety of our students during the afternoon lunch recess.

Running Club Starts Thursday, October 21, 2:45-4:15 p.m.

All CCE students are encouraged to join Running Club afterschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next Thursday, October 21.  Please access this link to sign your child up:

Lobos Activos – Playworks Recess and PE Enrichment

CCE has developed a new recess, play and PE program called “Lobos Activos”.  This program is a combination of Playworks, introduction to new recess games, and PE skills led by Hilary Henricson, CCE parent Alum and honorary staff member.  Hilary will be supported by SIPAT, CCE and DJUSD funds to support positive play during recess and PE every Tuesdays and Thrusdays.  We are so excited to begin next week.  Please consider volunteering.  See below.

CCE Obsolete Surplus Event, Nov 4 for Parents!

Obsolete textbooks, classroom materials, and consumables are currently being sorted by teachers.  Per district policy we will hold an obsolete/surplus materials event to give families the opportunity to take these materials home to use as extra home resources.  If you are interested in these materials, please come to the CCE lunch tables on November 4th, 1:30-3:30 where all materials will be placed for pick-up.  If you have questions, please email our librarian, Petrina Jonas (pjonas@djusd.net).

i-Ready FAQs

What is i-Ready?

To support student learning and growth, DJUSD is administering a diagnostic formative assessment known as i-Ready to all elementary and secondary students in the fall, winter and spring.  i-Ready is an online program that provides accurate data to measure student academic progress in order to help teachers better understand student strengths and areas for growth, personalize learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. This data is not intended to label students and will not be a part of a student’s report card. It will help teachers adjust and modify instructional practices in response to student needs.

How do the i-Ready assessments work?

The i-Ready assessments are “adaptive” in design, meaning the program will adjust each question depending on whether students answer the questions correctly or incorrectly. This allows the program to assess strengths and what a student has not yet learned. Students are encouraged to try their best while taking the assessments, and they should know that even incorrect answers will help their teachers know more accurately what they still need to learn.

How can parents and guardians access results?

Parents and Guardians can access assessment results by logging in to the DJUSD Parent Portal (where you completed Online Re-Enrollment). Click the following links for instructions (English; Spanish) on how to find those results (please note: if your student has not yet taken an i-Ready assessment or is in the process of taking an assessment, results will not yet be visible). Families can also contact their school’s front office for copies of assessment results.
