Thanks to all the constructive and positive feedback I have received from our families and staff during these past three weeks! Your insight and perspective are critical to the collaborative partnerships and relationships we establish to ensure our school serves our students’ and family’s needs in harmonious and proactive ways. We are stronger together and we will continue to cooperate, adapt and resile in challenging conditions.

Our CCE Climate Committee, staff and students are excited to honor and recognize our first school’s Heritage Month observance with National Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month, between 15 September – 15 October. Our CCE Library opened this week! And our CCE Library Team, Rachel Burgess (CCE School Site Council Member) and Petrina Jonas (CCE Climate Committee Member) have worked with our Climate Committee and staff to collect Hispanic-Latinx Children’s Literature books that honor this month and support our Ethnic Studies district and schoolwide initiative. Sra. Burgess created this beautiful bulletin board showcasing our new books we are featuring this month!

What is the role of our CCE Climate Committee?

Our school Climate Committee is an important governing group of CCE parents and staff who meet monthly. It is a key place for parents to be involved with our fellow stakeholder groups, SIPAT, School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Climate Committee focuses on our schoolwide Safe and Inclusive Environment that include:

  • Social-Emotional Learning Programs
  • Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) = CARES
  • Heritage Months and Observances, including events and resources.
  • Anti-bullying
  • Racial-social justice efforts
  • Ethnic Studies
  • Friday Spirit Days

Davis Parent University Presents Anti-Racism Series

DPU is bringing two speakers for a series on raising anti-racist children for the 2021-2022 school year.
The first event will be on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Dr. Beverly Tatum is the author of the landmark work on race dynamics in schools, Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? Her presentation will address issues such as:

  • How to have conversation about race and racism with kids
  • How to embrace cross-racial dialogue and build community through dialogue
  • How to be an ally

The second event is scheduled after the new year, on Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Dr. Jennifer Eberhardt is the author of Biased, a book that delves into the implicit biases we all carry.

DJUSD Civic Permits Program

Davis Joint Unified School District welcomes community members, groups, and organizations to use our facilities for athletic events, fundraisers, neighborhood meetings and more. Jannett Rosales-Flores is responsible for managing the Civic Permits program and will be working with the community, as well as our school site partners in need of using our school facilities. School Site Council Seeking Parents to Serve for the 2021-22 School Year

Please consider joining the 2021-2022/23 César Chávez Elementary School Site Council, the insights of parents are critical to our work. This year we will vote to fill one parent representative and one parent alternate. If you would like to be a candidate, please fill out the Google form here and submit by September 22, 2021. Applicant Announcement and Ballot with Applicant Statements will be distributed to families on September 23. Voting will close on September 30 and elected members will be announced on October 1.
