Dear César Chávez Elementary Parents and Guardians,

DJUSD and César Chávez Elementary are implementing a new assessment and supplemental curriculum tool this month. The program is called i-Ready and includes academic assessments for students in grades K-6 for Reading and Math; as well as supplemental curriculum individualized for each student at their appropriate skill levels.

Since starting Distance Learning, our Teachers have worked hard to assess and support student academic needs. They have done amazing work using our current assessment and curriculum tools. The i-Ready program will enhance our teachers’ efforts by standardizing assessments across grade levels and throughout our District and providing accurate data that will help guide classroom instruction, student work groups and allocation of intervention/support resources.

More important to know is that i-Ready is not a Language Proficiency Assessment that measures how well students understand English or Spanish when it is not their primary language. It is a skills-based diagnostic that assess Common Core proficiencies in specific grade-level learning domains found in Math and English Language Arts.

To learn more about the program, please take a moment to view thess short videos, in English or Spanish, produced by our DJUSD Elementary Principal team. As you will see, our teams are excited to implement this tool and we want to partner with you to support the at-home administration of the initial i-Ready assessment. Should you want to learn more about the i-Ready program, please review the links below.

In the coming days/weeks please look for a communication from your classroom teacher informing you and your student when and how to take the i-Ready English Language Arts and Math tests. The tests will be administered during instructional time and may be assigned to be done synchronously (with the teacher in the “room”) or asynchronously.

We are excited to add the i-Ready program as an additional tool for instruction during Distance Learning and even for use when we return to in-person learning on our campuses.
Sincerely,

Veronica L Dunn
