Greetings César Chávez Elementary,

As we approach our sixth week of our 2021-22 school year, the students and staff have been building classroom communities with the focus of CARES (Cooperación, Adaptabilidad, Responsibilidad, Empatía, Seguridad). We completed our fifth core-value with our Fall “Safety Week” last week which was a great school achievement in practicing campus and classroom emergency drills. We believe that our students have a right to learn in a safe environment and we will continue to hold monthly drills as a California law requirement. Our School Site Council has been tasked to revise and approve our CCE Comprehensive Safety Plan this fall to ensure a coordinated approach to safety on our campus. Maintaining a safe environment is critical to success and is everyone’s responsibility.

Thank you, parents, for supporting the work of our staff who prioritize each student’s emotional, social and physical well-being under our care at school!

Filipino American History Month Celebrated Annually in October

The contributions of Filipino Americans to culture and society are still not properly acknowledged, though they make up the second-largest Asian American ethnic group, comprising about 1 out of every 5 Asian Americans. On Monday, October 25, CCE will commemorate Larry Itliong, the Filipino American workers’ rights activist, who helped organize grape boycotts alongside César E. Chávez and Dolores Huerta in the 1960s.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) Meeting – Tues, October 5, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Zoom

Please join our first ELAC school meeting this school year, via Zoom. Our ELAC Committee advises the principal and staff in the development of our School Plan for Student Achievement for English Language Learners. We hope to elect an ELAC president, Secretary who will serve as our school’s District English Learner Advisory Committee Representative. Please access our agenda here.

Short-Term Independent Study (STIS)

STIS is available for students who know in advance that they will be absent for five or more school days and enables the student to stay current with coursework provided by their classroom teachers. A STIS contract allows up to 10 school days at an Elementary School Site. If you know your child will be absent beyond 10 days, you may opt into a Short Term Independent Study through our Davis School of Independent Study. Please contact your child’s teacher and attendance manager, Daniela Loyola ([email protected]) at least 72 hours prior to requesting a STIS contract. You may also visit our DJUSD website regarding school Attendance and Engagement.

Anderson Road Loading Zone, 3-Minutes

We respectfully ask our CCE families to not leave their vehicles unattended or parked on Anderson Road for more than-3 minutes during morning drop off or pick up either in front of the Construction Gate Entrance or Loading Zone. This is a great safety hazard especially with the increased volume of bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicle transportation in the mornings. CCE staff will be obliged to take down vehicle license plates and call our local police department if the issue persists. Thank you for your understanding.
