Principal Dunn Updates- May 2, 2021
Posted on 05/02/2021

Greetings César Chávez Families,

National Teacher Appreciation Week is this May 3-May 7, including School Lunch Hero Day on May 7.  Our CCE teachers have felt so cared for and supported by you and your students throughout this challenging school year.  Right now, CCE has never felt happier and more hopeful for a safe return to school moving forward.  Just imagine an educational cataclysm happening when we were our children’s ages, before the internet or science was accessible and innovative…even though the variables are different, the resilience and strength we gain from our caring connections and relationships is everlasting.  Thank you, Teachers and Parents for doing your very best to ensure our children found silver-linings, hope and safety this past year!

Yours sincerely,

Sra. Dunn

İGracias, Bike Swap Organizers and Volunteers!

Last weekend, Jill Bonner and fellow CCE parents, alumni volunteers hosted a very successful Bike Swap Event.  We thank our CCE community for working at the event and donating or purchasing a gently used or upgraded bike as all proceeds support SIPAT’s program enrichment activities and opportunities for our school.

CCE Appreciates SIPAT

We thank you for all your support for our students, families and staff and making this transition for everyone a safe and joyful time!  You can access our staff’s gratitude here.

Outdoor Learning Spaces “Pilot” at CCE

CCE is presently working towards a long-term, sustainable Outdoor Learning program.  We are grateful for DJUSD who is supporting our efforts, as well as our active parent community who offers direct support when needed.  So far with your collective backing, our parent community located and fashioned over 50 “tree stumps” for outdoor seating on our campus.  While DJUSD has funded some infrastructure to establish outdoor classrooms such as tables, shade, seating, materials, including Professional Development and a stipend for a school staff member willing to serve as an Outdoor Learning Coordinator, Kristie Dunbarr, 4th & 5th grade Science Teacher is our CCE coordinator!  Consider these next 6 weeks of utilizing CCE’s 10 identified outdoor learning spaces as a “pilot/prototype”.  Right now, these spaces are currently being tested out by Specialists, Paraeducators and Teachers who are running small groups or whole classes.

DJUSD Summer Enrichment

There will be many summer in-person, enrichment offerings offered by DJUSD this summer for Kinder-12 graders.  You may learn more by visiting this site and to sign up.  I recommend the Spanish Culture and Conversation for Immersion, Two-Way Bilingual, and Spanish Speaking students for Grades 4-5 and 6-7.

CCE In-Person/Distance Learning Request Form

Only complete this Google Form if you are interested in switching from Distance Learning into In-Person Learning at César Chávez Elementary, or switching from In-Person Learning into Distance Learning.  In-person instruction placement requests will be reviewed by sites each Thursday in the order they are received.  Families will be consulted and/or notified of in-person activation on Fridays.  Please note that transition to in-person instruction relies upon class flexibility.  Distance Learning requests will be consulted by parent in collaboration with school staff to support transition and family flexibility.

TUESDAYS at CCE, Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing:  8:00-12:15 and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Starting on April 13, asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing will take place near the front of our school between 8:00-12:15 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.  To keep our community safe, we recommend all our staff and students testing at least once a week.  If you have not already signed up for an account, please follow the directions on this site so staff and students are ready to test the first week of school.

If you already have a Healthy Davis Together account, or need to sign up, Saturdays and Sundays, you can test at Mondavi, switch your account to DJUSD and receive a free gift card!  This promotion is only available at Mondavi on the weekends.  CCE’s testing day and time: Tuesdays, 8:00a-12:15p and 1-4p (or encourage testing at Vets for DHS and Senior Center for King and DSIS).
