Principal Dunn Update, October 11, 2020
Posted on 10/11/2020
CCE Community,

Thanks to the many parents who attended the Principal Listening Tour this past Thursday evening. My hope is to hold a Tour three times a year, so if you missed the first one there will be another opportunity in February 2021. This Tour focused on three topics: DJUSD Phase 2 to Campus Plan, Spanish Language Development Strategies and Social-Emotional Development & Wellness in Distance Learning.

I have learned from you that even though Distance Learning this Fall is much improved from the Spring, many families are still observing their child struggling to sustain balanced attention, enthusiasm and skill to manage their remote school interactions, instruction and workload with or without support from parents and caregivers at home or in care centers. We recognize and are grateful for everything that the teachers and parents are doing to support their child’s academics and wellness as best as we possibly can together in 100% Distance Learning. Still, I encourage you to communicate with me, your child’s teacher and school counselor directly so we are aware of any immediate conditions impacting your child and/or family while in Distance Learning. We truly are in this together and want to help!

CCE Kindness Week

During our morning meetings last week, Teachers facilitated conversations about kindness and taught students about acts of kindness, not only to others but to ourselves. Teachers and students also talked about bullying – what it is and how we can protect ourselves and others from bullying. Sra. Flores, CCE Counselor, created many recorded videos and lessons for teachers and students to support this special week and month. Please ask your child about it!

CCE SIPAT Día de Muertos Celebración

Join us for a virtual “Spoken Word” version of our annual CCE SIPAT Día de Muertos celebration on Monday, November 2, 6pm-8pm. It will be a time to have fun, share history & culture, and an opportunity to participate in a public performance. Our school community is invited to share a poem, song, or dance. The themes for performances are Día de Muertos, celebrating life, or remembering a loved one. Contact Steve Nyholm & Melissa Moreno for any questions or comments at (916) 302-6315 or

Unicef trick or treat

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is on this year, just virtual!

It is that time of year again – the Davis tradition of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF! Each year CCE students raise thousands of dollars to help kids around the world with access to basic needs, like food, clean water, soap, medical care, and school supplies. During the pandemic, UNICEF has delivered tens of millions of protective items for health care workers, medical equipment, and hygiene supplies to countries around the world.

How will it work this year? This year, Cesar Chavez Elementary has one virtual orange box, so we can see our total grow. Contributions can be made in three ways:

1) Use this link to donate to the CCE box by credit card. Donations will contribute to the CCE box.

2) Kids can earn virtual "coins" for the CCE box by watching videos and doing activities.

3) If your family has been saving up coins/bills to donate this year, you can email me ( to arrange a contactless pickup.

Kids can watch the CCE total grow here. As always, participation is completely voluntary.
Thank you for your support of UNICEF this year!
