Happy Mother’s Day!

Thanks to you all for making this a special week for our Teachers and Staff at César Chávez Elementary! We are grateful for all the student’s kind words, flowers, classroom supplies, lunches and snacks this week…¡Muchas Gracias!

COVID-19 Health & Safety

I also appreciate our caregivers and parents for proactively keeping us informed of your child’s health regarding symptoms, exposures to COVID-19 and/or any out of town, state/ country travel that may warrant a brief or suggested quarantine. Please review the DJUSD Travel Advisory our district follows firmly. There have been elementary classrooms at other schools who have had to self-quarantine since our Return to Campus and it is a great reminder to our CCE community that we are still navigating a pandemic and must continue to be diligent when it comes to our health and safety protocols.

May 10 - May 28 End of Year Assessments

K-6 Teachers will begin their Trimester III end of year assessments for the final school year report card starting this week. Teachers will need to adjust their in-person and Distance Learning schedules during this time to accommodate 1:1 or small group assessment blocks. If possible, please let your teacher know in advance if your child will be absent from in-person or in Distance Learning during these next 3 weeks during assessments to ensure your child is assessed prior to June. I also thank you for calling our school office regarding your child’s absence or illness at 757-5490 or contacting our school nurse, Natalie Johnson, if you have questions or need assistance.

CCE Tuesday COVID Testing

We have appreciated all you have done to help our Return to Campus a safe one with ongoing asymptomatic COVID testing on our campus and at other HDT DJUSD and community locations. Stats for this Tuesday - total # of tests = 139, students: 114, staff: 25 about 25% of on campus students/staff.

Battle of the Books

This week’s virtual CCE Library event is our 4th – 6th grade Battle of the Books match. Students have read their books and are ready to work in their teams to answer challenging questions!


CCE Spring Safety Week, Tu., May 10 – Th., May 13

Staff and students will be participating in three practice emergency drills this week: Tuesday: Earthquake Drill, Wednesday: Fire Drill, and Thursday: Teacher Down Drill.

School Site Council Is Seeking Parents to Serve for the 2021-22 School Year

Please consider joining the 2021-22 César Chávez Elementary School Site Council, the insights of parents are critical to our work. The Site Council meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Spanish-speakers are especially encouraged to apply. Parent representatives are elected for a term of two years. This year we will vote to fill one parent representative and one parent alternate. If you would like to be a candidate, please fill out the Google form below and submit by May 17, 2021. Applicant Announcement and Ballot with Applicant Statements will be distributed to families on May 19, 2021. Voting will close on May 28 and elected members will be announced on June 2.

Parent Volunteers

Presently Yolo County is still assigned in the Orange Tier, and I appreciate that our school members continue to follow the Orange Tier gathering guidelines, travel advisory, and campus visitor limitations that have been established. We are all awaiting reviewed, weekly data that may adjust restrictions or meet the criteria to Yellow Tier standing. While we are so close to meeting the “Minimal” Yellow Tier, I would like to invite CCE Parent/Caregiver Volunteers who are interested, and fully vaccinated back on campus during school hours and in outdoor settings only. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher or office staff member if you are interested in volunteering during school hours in our outdoor settings. ¡Muchas, Gracias!

SIPAT-CCE Move A Thon, May 19

We are so excited to be holding our traditional Move A Thon event in-person and virtually on Wednesday, May 19 during the school day. All CCE students will have Movement Stations socially distanced for classes to rotate around our playground and grass area. Many thanks to SIPAT organizers, Jennifer Kam, Robin Erbacher, and parent volunteers!

DJUSD Parent Engagement Night

DJUSD will be virtually hosting our annual DJUSD Parent Engagement Night on Wednesday, May 12 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.. This informative evening provides an opportunity for parents, District Staff and Davis community members to learn more about the student experience and what is happening in our district. Save the Date…6th Annual DJUSD Reclassification Ceremony

A virtual ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. for family and friends of our English Learner students. Join us virtually to recognize the students newly reclassified as English proficient. Students will receive an award for their outstanding achievement in becoming multilingual. See flyer here.


CCE In-Person/Distance Learning Request Form

Only complete this Google Form if you are interested in switching from Distance Learning into In-Person Learning at César Chávez Elementary, or switching from In-Person Learning into Distance Learning. In-person instruction placement requests will be reviewed by sites each Thursday in the order they are received. Families will be consulted and/or notified of in-person activation on Fridays. Please note that transition to in-person instruction relies upon class flexibility. Distance Learning requests will be consulted by parent in collaboration with school staff to support transition and family flexibility.

Non-Essential Travel of unvaccinated persons

  1. Except in connection with essential travel[ii], Californians should avoid non-essential travel outside of California, to other states or countries unless they are fully vaccinated. Avoiding travel reduces the risk of virus transmission, including by reducing the risk that new sources of infection and, potentially, new virus strains will be introduced to California.
  2. Non-essential travelers from other states or countries, are strongly discouraged from entering California, and should adhere to the quarantine procedures set forth below.
  3. Non-essential travelers who are not fully vaccinated should get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before travel and get tested 3-5 days upon arrival to their destination. They should stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if their test is negative.
  4. Non-essential travelers who are not fully vaccinated and do not get tested should stay home and self-quarantine 10 days after travel.

ii "Essential travel" is travel associated with the operation, maintenance, or usage of critical infrastructure or otherwise required or expressly authorized by law (including other applicable state and local public health directives), including work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care, and safety and security. Persons who routinely cross state or country borders for essential travel do not need to quarantine.
