This message comes to you with much enthusiasm for the updates I am about to share with you!  As you know DJUSD plans to open in Hybrid Model the week of April 12.  Thank you for taking the time to read the information below and to visit our DJUSD Website where you will find Friday’s message from Superintendent Bowes.

Also, tonight at 12:00 a.m. our Family Youth Truth Survey will close.  Tonight will be the last chance to submit your survey.  Our school is at 34%, 186 out of 549 completion and we hope to reach our goal of 50% of parent participation.  ¡Muchas Gracias!

Highlights

Extracurricular Activities at CCE

We are pleased to announce that CCE will be starting Extracurricular Activities on the César Chávez Elementary School campus for our students after school starting tomorrow and until the end of the school year.  This is an opportunity for your child to participate in a socially distanced, in-person activity on campus.  Our aim is to enhance student engagement, increase overall social-emotional well-being and aid in the development of peer relationships. 

  • If you are interested in signing your child up for Sports for Life, please fill out this LOTTERY REGISTRATION FORM as we will use a lottery system to fill each of the sessions with the number of students each activity can accommodate.  Siblings have priority registration for sessions.
  • There will be other opportunities for our students to engage in at least one of the Extracurricular Activities we will be offering this Spring.
  • Students randomly selected will be notified by parent email. 
  • We cannot take special requests at this time.
  • If a student is unavailable for a particular session, they will be placed onto a Lottery waitlist.

Update

Hybrid Model Schedule

Please take a moment to review the Board of Education approved Elementary Hybrid Model Schedule.   Please take note:  this is not in an articulated schedule as each Elementary grade level will now need to accommodate a school day that allows for SB 98 required minimum instructional minutes for three new components:  1) Distance Learning for all students (Groups A/B/C), 2) Distance Learning only (Group C) and, 3) In-Person Instruction for Group A (M/T); Group B (Th/F).

That is synchronous and asynchronous minutes will be at minimum or less than the FULL Distance Learning schedule students receive now.  Teachers will be incorporate the instructional minutes for each; Group C Distance Learning Instruction and the Group A/B In-Person Instruction.  Grade-Levels will be sending out their articulated schedules after Spring Break.  This week, lookout for the DJUSD Elementary Hybrid Model Parent Survey for each family’s student selection for Group A, B, or C. 

 

COVID Saliva Testing for all DJUSD students

If you would like your child tested at one of our school sites, there are two items to complete.  Please go to the Healthy Davis Together website at  https://healthydavistogether.org/testing/ and register your child.  Then go to the DJUSD website and fill out the DJUSD Minor COVID Testing Waiver (English) (Spanish).  Please have your child bring the waiver to one of the following test sites at the times specified below to have your child tested.  Parents do not need to be present for testing once the waivers are on file.

  • Mondays 1-4 at Birch Lane Elementary MPR (1600 Birch Lane)

Reminders

Online Scholastic Book Fair – March 8th – 21st.

Our parent coordinators, Lolita and Liz, will be coordinating our Spring Book Fair which will continue to take place online.  More information including our CCE shopping link coming soon.

 

Parent-Teacher Conference Week

Conferences will be in a virtual format, and your student’s teacher will send a Zoom invitation for your meeting.  Classroom Teachers may be adjusting their live synchronous and asynchronous instruction during the week of conferences to accommodate parent schedules for conferencing.  If needed, conference appointments may be scheduled during morning hours or before or after the Elementary Conference Week.   NOTE:  Curbside Material Pickup will not be scheduled for the month of March.

 

DJUSD Intent to Return Form

If you have a child in TK-5th grade in DJUSD, it is time to complete your DJUSD Intent to Return request.  This process happens ONLINE in the DJUSD Parent Portal and is open.  You will log into the DJUSD Parent Portal (the one used to complete your Online Re-Enrollment) and follow the simple instructions below.  If you forgot your pin and password, you may request a reminder to your email.  Please complete this process for each of your children in TK-5th grades no later than Friday, March 19, 2021.
