Greetings CCE Community,

Thanks to all students, staff and families for making our Phase 4 Elementary Instructional In-Person and Distance Learning Model a success this week! While we all experienced some network performance issues during the first two days - making it hard for students to join virtual class meetings, simulcast sessions or logging into Chromebooks - everyone demonstrated grace and patience.

I am pleased to see us all working together to adjust to a new schedule with routines and systems in hybrid learning conditions. Our priority is to achieve safety on campus and inclusivity with our remote learners. It may not be perfect at the start, but we will do our best to adapt and improve the model for our students, families and staff each day. Our school is here to serve all CCE students and families this Spring with great prospects to reuniting in the fall.
It was a week to remember, and I thank you all for your contribution and support.

Plan for When Students or Staff Becomes Ill

DJUSD families received an email from Associate Superintendent Student Support Services, Laura Juanitas, on Tuesday, April 13 that highlights how the district further protects the health and safety of the DJUSD community regarding testing protocols. It is also important for our families to know the plan for when students or staff become ill by visiting this site to learn more about 1) Referring a Student to the Isolation Tent when during in-person learning time, 2) Screening for illness in Symptomatic Student/Staff, 3) Covid-19 Testing and Follow-Up, 4) Contact Tracing Protocols

On behalf of the CCE Staff, we thank SIPAT Executive Board Members and SIPAT families for putting Welcome Back Student gift bags, providing lunch for staff our first week back, Friday night, homemade frozen dinners, and overall cheer for our parents with a coffee cart at Redwood Park and Bubble Celebrations at Dismissal times all week! We are so grateful for all the joy and kindness you share with our school community—muchas gracias!

National School Librarian Day

We are grateful for our School Librarian, Petrina Jonas, and our Librarian Tech, Rachel Burgess, who play an important role as instructional partners who collaborate with our classroom teachers to offer enrichment, digital citizenship & media lessons, in addition to integrating biliteracy practices in our Spanish Immersion Program. Library Book Check Out is Now Open!

All CCE Students will not be coming to the library to browse for books but will be using a Google Form to request books. Sra. Jonas and Sra. Burgess will deliver the books to the classroom when they are ready. Distance learners will be contacted when their requests are filled with pick-up information. All the information is posted in the Library Canvas course. There is a button on the top of the home page to click to get to more information, directions, and the request form.

  1. Every student will be able to check out two books at a time. Books can be returned anytime to the blue Library Book Return Bin in the front of the school. Once books are returned, students will be able to check out more.
  2. Don't know what to request? Select "Librarian Choice" on the request form and we will fill the request with two age appropriate books (1 in Spanish & 1 in English).
  3. We will be filling requests through May 21st and all books will be due May 28th.
  4. If you child has a textbook checked out, their teacher will provide directions on when to return textbooks to the classroom.


CCE In-Person/Distance Learning Request Form

Only complete this Google Form if you are interested in switching from Distance Learning into In-Person Learning at César Chávez Elementary, or switching from In-Person Learning into Distance Learning. In-person instruction placement requests will be reviewed by sites each Thursday in the order they are received. Families will be consulted and/or notified of in-person activation on Fridays. Please note that transition to in-person instruction relies upon class flexibility. Distance Learning requests will be consulted by parent in collaboration with school staff to support transition and family flexibility.

TUESDAYS at CCE, Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing: 8:00-12:15 and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Starting on April 13, asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing will take place near the front of our school between 8:00-12:15 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m. To keep our community safe, we recommend all our staff and students testing at least once a week. If you have not already signed up for an account, please follow the directions on this site so staff and students are ready to test the first week of school.
If you already have a Healthy Davis Together account, or need to sign up, Saturdays and Sundays, you can test at Mondavi, switch your account to DJUSD and receive a free gift card! This promotion is only available at Mondavi on the weekends. CCE’s testing day and time: Tuesdays, 8:00a-12:15p and 1-4p (or encourage testing at Vets for DHS and Senior Center for King and DSIS).

Garden Club - Extracurricular Activity at CCE

Join our after-school Garden Club. Students will engage in four weeks of fun outdoor nature enrichment activities. The students will: (1) tend the garden beds and plant summer crops, (2) replant the 6th grade corridor planters, (3) create all natural bird feeders, (4) learn about the land-species connection and other ecological concepts, and (5) do outdoor art projects.

Únase a nuestro club de jardinería después de la escuela. Los estudiantes participarán en cuatro semanas de divertidas actividades de enriquecimiento de la naturaleza al aire libre. Los estudiantes: (1) cuidarán las camas del jardín y plantarán cultivos de verano, (2) replantarán las macetas de los corredores de sexto grado, (3) crearán todos los comederos naturales para aves, (4) aprenderán sobre la conexión entre la tierra y las especies y otros conceptos ecológicos, y (5) hacer proyectos de arte al aire libre.
