Principal Dunn Update: January 24, 2021.
Saludos Comunidad de César Chávez Elementary,

As your principal I want to express my gratitude, and acknowledge the dedication and energy of our Students, Parents, Caregivers and Staff. You all have risen to the challenge to uphold the faithful work of teaching and learning Spanish online. This educational shift, though adaptive and innovative, possesses a spectrum of multi-sensory experiences and outcomes yet to be fully determined.

However, what I do know is that our school community remains committed to connection and resilience. During these past 10 months, we have shown the capacity to be generous, creative, patient and kind. That is, we are still creating the conditions for these capacities in order to thrive, even in the direst circumstances. Together we will get through this, I know we can, if together we hold steadfast in crisis and struggle with our Sí se puede spirit indefinitely.

With deep appreciation,

Sra. Dunn

On January 19, the DJUSD Board of Education Passed a motion with specific conditions DJUSD will need to establish for a Hybrid return to schools that include two components, learn more about this here. Already, DJUSD has launched Healthy Davis Together’s asymptomatic COVID-19 testing on school campuses, MERV-13 filter installations and air purifiers for each classroom, including new protocols to ensure Cal OSHA/COVID-19 safety protocols for notification, quarantine and contact tracing. However, there are two variable conditions we must anticipate first before we move forward with reopening schools in a Hybrid Model, 1) Yolo County must be in the Red Tier for two weeks (or lower tier) and, 2) Teachers and Staff who are being asked to return have had access to both doses of an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, and provided with up to two weeks for recovery following the second vaccine.

Correspondingly, additional time will be devoted this week for Action Teams and Advisory Committees to revise and finalize an Elementary School Hybrid Model that supports equity, continuity and compatibility suitable for each DJUSD Elementary School and Program. In addition, Trustees will be discussing whether a due date can be established for when Distance Learning would remain our primary instructional model until the end of the year.

I encourage our school members to stay tuned for the February 4, 6:30 p.m. Board of Education Meeting where Trustees will be receiving a revised Elementary and Preschool Hybrid Model Schedule to review and approve. The meeting can be viewed on DJUSD Education Channel 17 and by livestream, or you can watch archived recordings at The DJUSD website also posts the latest information on the Return to Campus website and encourages each school member to share your feedback with
