Saludos familias de CCE,
This week, CCE will be participating in La semana de Seguridad/Safety Week where staff and students will be trained on emergency protocols and various drills on campus. Our staff has found that it is best if you discuss the drills listed below with your child AFTER they take place. Most often, when parents have tried to prepare their children for school safety drills by discussing them ahead of time at home, the children create frightening scenarios which they may share with peers at school.
For this reason, CCE staff prioritize explaining/practicing the context of emergency procedures with their students first, then actually practicing in the drill schoolwide helps children immensely. The children realize that it isn’t scary after all and that practicing safety drills is a necessary precaution.
Please visit our DJUSD website here to learn more about the types of actions a school might take in the event of an emergency.

Digital Citizenship Week: Oct 17-21
At CCE, students learn how to be good digital citizens who use technology responsibly, respectfully, and safely. In the library during Digital Citizenship Week, students in grades 4-5 will be learning about the importance of creating strong and secure passwords. In January, students in grades 4-6 will engage in a longer unit about digital citizenships. These concepts are incorporated into lessons throughout the school year in the library as well as all classrooms.
Here is a family activity from Common Sense Media about creating strong and secure passwords:
