Principal Dunn Update - May 29, 2022
Posted on 05/29/2022

Los lobos,

It is a 3-day national holiday weekend, and hoping you find yourself enjoying some time with loved ones. A gentle reminder that there is no school this Monday, May 30.

My heart still utterly aches for the Uvalde, Texas community as they morn and grieve for the innocent lives of school children and staff at Robb Elementary School. To all the educators and parents out there reading this, I know how this affects you. When tragedies like this are upon us, we must contend with the most appropriate yet honest, simple, and tender way to broach this with our students and children. It is clear to me that our CCE staff and families’ experience and compassion have once again aided us in safeguarding their comfort and emotional wellbeing this week at school. Thank you to our counselor, teachers, and parents for doing what you always do best which is to allow your students to guide you on what they need.

Please reach out in any way if you or your student need resources or support which are available through our district. Here are some tips on how to speak with your students about how they are feeling if and/or when they hear about this tragic incident. Some may consider wearing orange on June 3 to honor the lives affected by gun violence. While we are all in different places in times of crisis, we thoughtfully encourage students, staff and family members within our school community to continue to ask questions and to seek support.

With peace and love,

Sra. Dunn

CCE 6th Grade Robotics Team Rocked It!

Congratulations to the César Chávez Elementary 6th grade Robotics Team who competed on May 16th at Willett Elementary. The students under the captainship of our teacher, Katie Williams, worked for five months working on robot kits in partnership with Citrus Circuits. We look forward to continuing with our Robotics program and hopefully expanding it for the next school year. ¡Sí se puede, el club de robótica!

Super Lobos this Week!

Each week CCE students are acknowledged for demonstrating their CARES! Students receive a Certificate of Recognition, a picture with the principal and are entered into a raffle for PBIS prizes! Congratulations to: Idrees Abdul, Saraiya Backs, Ander Verduzco Primakov, Sebastian V Nino, Logan Young, Anthony Mielenz, Matias Runcie, Gabriela Hernandez-Correa, Kayla Mulhearn, Rhys Murray, Oliva Richards, and Alexander Takei.

If you have any questions about volunteering, please email Petrina Jonas at [email protected]t.

4th Grade Concert Featuring Mariachi Puente: Thursday, June 2, 6:00p.m., Brunelle

The new music program, Education Through Music, was an incredible opportunity for all DJUSD 4th grade students to experience music through play, build stronger social skills, and learn about music and movement without the added challenge of an instrument this school year. In all these mentioned aspects our CCE students did a fantastic job and would like to share some songs they learned with our community! Mariachi Puente will be performing with and for us on Thursday, June 2, 6:00 p.m. at Brunelle Performance Hall, Davis High School. We hope to see our school members there!

Short-Term Independent Study Contracts Are No Longer Accepted

The STIS contracts are no longer accepted as STIS days may not go beyond May 31st. No STIS contracts will be approved. Please contact Daniela Loyola if you have any questions, [email protected]
