César Chávez Elementary Caregivers and Families,

¡Muchas Gracias, SIPAT and Volunteers! Wednesday, May 19th’s Move A Thon was an extraordinary and memorable day for our school community this school year. Kindergarten students, families and Kinder teachers enjoyed fun activity stations in the Kinder Yard, while 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th students and staff participated in a rotation of playground activities, including dance and an obstacle course. Our Distance Learners also had the opportunity to join via a Live Stream. The day concluded with popsicles for students and popsicle vouchers for Distance Learners which the students found to be a great treat!

This week, please join me in congratulating, Lynn Alvarez, on her promotion to the DJUSD Fiscal Department and welcoming Serina Echeverria who will be our new CCE Administrative Assistant! After 14 years serving our school community, Lynn will be training Serina and transitioning to her new department this week. We will miss her so much, though we are happy she will continue to be of assistance to CCE and all DJUSD schools!
In community,

Sra. Dunn

Highlights

¡Murales, murales y más murales!
Murals
Welcome Back, Class of 2020! Coordinated by CCE alumni parents and DJUSD Maintenance and Operations Department, Class of 2020 6th graders, returned to CCE to design and paint their Class of 2020 CCE Ball Wall Mural over the past two weekends! They were so happy to have the opportunity to leave their mark at the school where they spent seven years together and to participate in a long standing tradition that they were all looking forward to last year. The stunning Class of 2020 mural will be installed on the east facing intermediate wing during the last week of school!

Class of 2021, History Captured in Class of 2021 Mural Current 6th grade parent volunteer leaders and over 75 CCE current and former students designed and painted a historical and significant CCE Ball Wall Mural that captures the perseverance and resiliency that each 6th grader demonstrated in such a difficult year. We are all so very proud of your accomplishments, Class of 2021! This remarkable mural will be installed on the west facing intermediate wing during the last week of school!

Garden Mural – SIPAT Art Project Resident CCE Mural Artist, Jaime Montiel, with 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students began the first stages of painting the Garden Mural. Each week, I will post pictures of their progress.

The purpose of the listening tour is to allow Board of Education members to hear directly from students about their experience(s) in DJUSD regarding Belonging, Engagement, Connectedness and Safety.

Virtual Community Outreach Presentation for Solar Implementation at César Chávez Elementary

On June 20, 2019 the DJUSD Board of Education passed the Call to Climate Action Resolution supporting the District’s commitment to environmental education, sustainability and the continuing expansion of District-wide efforts to improve the energy efficiency of DJUSD schools.

On February 6, 2020, the Board of Education entered into a partnership with ARC Alternatives to help DJUSD develop a Solar Master Plan. One of the primary goals in the Solar Master Plan is to offset 80% of the District’s energy use through photovoltaic energy production (with solar panel arrays on most DJUSD campuses), a goal which exceeds CalGreen and Title 24 State requirements. The installation of photovoltaic solar panels is a key step in our effort to expand renewable energy sources in DJUSD and at your school site

We would like to share a first look of your school site’s proposed solar panel installation location through this pre-recorded presentation.
It is important to note that the proposed locations of solar arrays are approximate locations based on initial information from the Solar Master Plan. Final placement and size of the solar arrays will be guided by the feedback we receive from staff, community and our solar array financing entity.

Please share your feedback and comments with us at FacilityPlanning@djusd.net by the end of the day on Monday, June 7 at 5:00 p.m.

For more information on solar projects in the District, please visit https://www.djusd.net/bond/d_j_u_s_d_solar/solar_outreach.

DJUSD Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee

In preparation for a program recommendation to be brought to the DJUSD Board of Education in the fall of 2021, an Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee will be created to inform the District’s recommendation and will function as an Advisory Committee under the auspices of the Instructional Services Department. DJUSD is seeking interested members of the community to guide District staff in the shared goal of creating a quality Ethnic Studies program to serve all students. Ethnic Studies is the study of the Asian American, African American, Native American, and Latina/o/x American communities’ identity, struggles, social movements and contributions to society. Please visit our Ethnic Studies Webpage for more information, including a link to the application for the Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee.

DJUSD and HDT Family Survey

We invite all families to complete this survey that is being conducted to collect opinions and perspectives from Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) parents and guardians about COVID-19 testing, at or near DJUSD schools, in partnership with Healthy Davis Together. Your feedback is very important to us and should take only about 10 minutes to complete. Survey responses are being collected by an independent third-party research company, and your responses will be completely confidential. Only one response per family is requested, and the survey will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 28. Thank you for your participation!
