Estimados comunidad de CCE,

Our César Chávez Elementary CARES (Cooperación, Adaptabilidad, Responsibilidad, Empatía, Seguridad) program has been in development for the past three years. Our staff is working together to reinforce and teach the expected school behaviors focusing on these 5-core values. We have observed students demonstrating their CARES growth and being recognized as a Super Lobo. However, there is still more we can do to ensure a positive school culture and climate developing healthy, pro-social and emotional student outcomes.

So, during the next three weeks CCE staff will be recognizing all students each day presenting them with a CARES “Gotcha” ticket whenever a student demonstrates CARES during the school day. When a student receives a CARES “Gotcha” ticket from any staff member, the student will turn in their “Gotcha” ticket to their teacher. The tickets will be collected and counted daily, with the school goal of reaching 1,000 ticketstotal. If we reach this goal, 1st-6th grade students will earn a CARES Carnival during their lunch recess on Wednesday, June 8th. We will be reaching out to parents soon to help volunteer during the lunch time recess to help run the Carnival booths with our Lobo Leaders and staff. Look out for a message next week to sign up!

VIDEOGRAPHER NEEDED: I am currently in search of a parent with video-media experience, or connection to a videographer/intern to help create CARES videos for the 2022-23 school year, starting with the opening of the new CCE MPR. If you are interested or can provide contact information, please contact me immediately at [email protected]

Thank you again for supporting our CARES core-values at CCE!

Sra. Dunn

Board of Education Listening Tour at CCE this Tuesday

This week we will be welcoming BOE President, Tom Adams, and DJUSD Superintendent, Matt Best, to meet with 3rd-6th grade students to learn more about our Spanish Immersion students’ experience learning in a Spanish Immersion Program this school year.

7th Annual DJUSD English Learner Reclassification Ceremony

A virtual reclassification ceremony will be held on May 24, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Zoom for 162 English Learner students under the leadership of Ricardo Perez, Director of English Learner, Immersion and World Language Programs for DJUSD. These students earned and attained Reclassified Fluent English Proficient status (RFEP). Important Reminders

CCE Reading Challenge!

We are looking for volunteers to help with our 2022 Reading Challenge (formally called Battle of the Books). Students who have chosen to participate formed groups of 4-6 and read 6 books. Now the groups will come together to answer quiz questions about the books. The group that answers the most questions correctly will be the 2022 Reading Challenge winners! Volunteers will be asked to collect written answers from students and help the judges (our librarians – Sra. Jonas & Sra. Burgess) keep track of correct answers. If you have any questions about volunteering, please email Petrina Jonas at [email protected].

Cell Phones and Smart Watches

It is important to share and remind our parents and students of our elementary school policy regarding student cellphone or smart watch use during school hours. Thank you for your support with this.

  • Cell phones must be stored and turned off in backpacks during school hours.
  • Smart Phones may be worn, though the student should not access any watch apps or digital tools for use during the school day.
  • Students are not allowed to text or make calls during school hours using their cell phones or smart watch devices. Students need to come to the office to call a parent or guardian.
  • Alarms must be turned off on cell phones and smart watches during the school day.

4th Grade Concert Featuring Mariachi Puente: Thursday, June 2, 6:00p.m., Brunelle

The new music program, Education Through Music, was an incredible opportunity for all DJUSD 4th grade students to experience music through play, build stronger social skills, and learn about music and movement without the added challenge of an instrument this school year. In all these mentioned aspects our CCE students did a fantastic job and would like to share some songs they learned with our community! Mariachi Puente will be performing with and for us on Thursday, June 2, 6:00 p.m. at Brunelle Performance Hall, Davis High School. We hope to see our school members there!

Short-Term Independent Study Contracts Are No Longer Accepted

The STIS contracts are no longer accepted as STIS days may not go beyond May 31st. No STIS contracts will be approved. Please contact Daniela Loyola if you have any questions, [email protected]
