Principal Dunn Update - March 6, 2022
Posted on 03/06/2022
César Chávez Elementary,

Our CCE Community received DJUSD Communications last week regarding the announcement from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that the state will lift its indoor face covering mandate in K-12 schools on March 12, 2022. CDPH and DJUSD will continue to strongly recommend that both vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff continue to wear a face covering while indoors. The guidance represents a shift in the public health approach from mandated protection for all, to a personal protection approach based on the risk to each individual and/or their families.

On March 3, the DJUSD Board of Education discussed this and determined that DJUSD will remove the indoor mask mandate throughout the District effective Monday, April 11, 2022. The date was chosen to provide students and staff time to make health-related decisions, prepare for the changing policy and protect against a possible COVID-19 surge following Spring Break.

We know that changes in public health policy may be stressful; please be patient as we determine the protocols to ensure the continued health and safety of everyone in our schools, and please be kind to school staff who are responsible for implementing these protocols. We appreciate your ongoing patience and support for all DJUSD students and Staff.

With sincere gratitude,

Sra. Dunn

CCE Parent-Teacher Conference Week: Monday, March 14 – Friday, March 18.

Trimester 2, Spring Teacher Conferences are scheduled to take place the week of March 14 for Kindergarten-6th grade families. Conferences will be in a virtual format, and your student’s teacher will send a Zoom invitation if they request a meeting. If needed, conference appointments may be scheduled in person after the school day on campus if parents have completed the DJUSD Volunteer Vaccination Form prior to the scheduled conference.

Spring Teacher Conferences are intended for parents/guardians of students who have academic, social-emotional, or other educational needs. If your child's teacher feels a conference would be beneficial, they will contact you to set up an appointment.

Only 1st-6th grades are dismissed at 1:30 p.m. during Conference Week. Kindergarten AM/PM schedule remains the same throughout this week.

book fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be back on campus the week of March 14th! All proceeds benefit the CCE Library!

Shopping will be modified this year to adhere to Covid safety guidelines. There will be no shopping at recess or before/after school. The book fair will only be open for student shopping during an assigned time for each class. Teachers will let parent/guardians know what day their students will be shopping at the fair. Each grade level will be able to send students who missed the chance to purchase at their assigned time back to the fair on Thursday, 3/17.

The easiest way for students to shop is by using a Scholastic e-wallet. This is a safe and cashless way for students to purchase items. We HIGHLY encourage parents/guardians to set up an e-wallet at

If you prefer for your student to pay using cash, please send the money to school in bag or other secure way labeled with their name and teacher’s name.

Parents/guardians can shop online at: Check your child’s Library Canvas page for a list of books and prices so you can plan purchases with your students.
