Principal Dunn Update - January 8, 2023
Posted on 01/08/2023

¡Feliz año nuevo!

I hope your 2023 is off to a great start and that your spirits are up despite the prevailing weather storms from the start. The conditions on campus have been wet, though manageable. The staff and students adapt well as we mitigate waterlogged areas on campus. Otherwise, we hope to have the essential utilities to continue operations and I will continue to update our families regarding our school’s preparedness and responsive plans due to any extreme conditions, forecasts, or power outages that come our way.

I also want to thank the 228 household-family members who participated in our Family Youth Truth Survey in November 2022. In the past five years, this was the first time our school has achieved a 75% response rate at CCE! Family members were surveyed about their perceptions of our school in terms of Engagement, Relationships, Culture, Communication & Feedback, Resources and School Safety. CCE’s highest rated themes were Engagement and Culture, while our lowest rates were Communication & Feedback and School Safety. As your principal I am grateful for this data as I personally and professionally want to align our hearts and minds for what is best for our CCE community. The staff and I look forward to working together with you in 2023 to ensure that growth and improvement continue to help our students succeed and thrive as life-long learners in our Spanish Immersion Program.

With Sí se puede spirit,

Sra. Dunn

Highlights

CCE Club de periódico: 1st Edition

We are so proud of the 40 4th-6th grade students who have been participating before school every Thursday with the lead of our two teachers, Srta. Vazquez and Srta. Monarrez, who recently published our Fall 1st Edition student newspaper. We invite our community to read and practice their Spanish with their student(s) at home: https://www.canva.com/design/DAFUAOiYWSc/X9N1fUn7gXHguTvjDiY-uA/view?utm_content=DAFUAOiYWSc&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

CCE Robotic Club

Our 6th grade Robotics Team is underway and CCE teacher, Sra. Williams, is excited to introduce a dozen 6th graders - with no to some experience - how to build bots, design bot courses and prepare them for the Spring Robotic competition against other 6th grade teams across the district.

All families and staff are welcome to attend the General SIPAT meeting this Tuesday to learn more about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and receive updates about the enrichment programs that SIPAT sponsor at CCE in 2023. Principal and staff reports are also presented at this meeting, including announcements from SIPAT executive board members and classroom reps. Hope to see you there!

Rainy Days at School

The kids love bringing their umbrellas and rubber boots to school on our rainy days and it’s great to see them appreciate and enjoy rain play and splashing in puddles. Though, the staff and I would appreciate your help with some of the following school and classroom expectations with reminders on wet days:

  • Umbrellas should be always labeled and kept on the student’s classroom hook or outside the student’s classroom.
  • Bring extra pairs of dry socks or clothing in backpacks in case clothing gets wet.
  • All board games, crafts or toys need to stay at home, unless the student is given permission from the teacher. Parents must contact the teacher directly.
  • Student cell phone and smartwatch use is not allowed during school hours (8:25a-2:35p/3:05p). These electronics must be set on silent, do-not-disturb functions or kept in the student’s backpack during the school day.
  • If you find that you are running behind due to the weather, we would much rather you arrive late but safe to campus. If you find yourself in this position, please call our office and we can get your student a pass and chaperone them to class.
