CCE Community,
Our school is proudly participating in
The Great Kindness Challenge (GKC), a week-long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion in communities worldwide. To help our students practice kindness and put their compassion into action, they will receive a GKC checklist.

Highlights
Learning about Martin Luther King, Jr
Students read stories, created projects, wrote inspirational quotes/messages, and watched some age-appropriate videos with their teachers and classmates this past week. Such themes that were discussed were, “say something” when we observe unfair, mean, or wrong treatment, and behave in kind, loving ways towards others (even when it’s hard). These types of themes will add to many more discussions during our GKC lessons.

Support & Volunteer Opportunities at CCE
The staff and I are so grateful for our community and parent volunteers this school year! We are reaching a record high of CCE enrolled parents/guardians, city of Davis-Yolo organizations, and UC/State university partnerships all interested in volunteering in our classrooms, supporting programs, and grade-level field trips. Our district, school staff, and SIPAT reps encourage high levels of volunteerism and have set up
volunteer guidelines and opportunities for parents to choose an occasion that works best for their schedules. Your time and donations are welcomed at any point during the school year, and if you have not had a chance or would like to know how you can help support our program please contact your student’s teacher,
SIPAT, or call our office (530) 757-5490 to learn how you can help our students and school.

Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment
Kindergarten registration is just around the corner, February 27, 2023! Younger siblings of CCE enrolled students, and any student eligible to attend DJUSD may register in our Spanish Language Immersion Program, regardless of language background. Students of varying abilities and needs contribute to the diversity of the community. Parents should understand that becoming bilingual (exhibiting cognitive, academic, and linguistic benefits of immersion) takes approximately seven years in an intense learning environment. It is therefore desirable for students to participate through at least the sixth grade.
While universal TK expansion is currently underway in DJUSD - Korematsu, North Davis, Patwin, Pioneer and Willett – César Chávez Elementary is hoping to open our expansion programs within the next two years. Please visit our DJUSD website
here to learn more about TK and Kinder enrollment in our District.
