Greetings CCE Community,
During this national holiday, Monday, January 16, we acknowledge the integrity of Martin Luther King, Jr. who dedicated his life to achieving equality and justice for Americans of all colors. He made brave sacrifices and inspired many with his activism for civil rights.
While Martin Luther King Jr. and César Chávez never met, I learned many years ago that they did communicate. During César Chávez’s 25-day fasting to affirm his commitment to nonviolence, he received a
telegram from Dr. King that read “…
My colleagues and I commend you for your bravery, salute you for your indefatigable work against poverty and injustice…”
With gratitude,
Sra. Dunn
Highlights
¡Felicidades, César Chávez Elementary!
I am SO excited to celebrate and share with you all the most wonderful recognition CCE has received in the 2023 Distinguished Schools Award by the California Department of Education!
The award program is celebrating its return this year after the COVID-19 pandemic suspended reporting of state and local student data between 2019-2021. So, to be recognized soon after a challenging time in our educational history makes it more exceptional! Since its inception in 1985, the California Distinguished School Award remains one of the important ways to celebrate exceptional schools, districts, teachers, and classified employees for their innovation, talent, and success in supporting students. CCE was awarded this recognition back in 2014…
¡Sí se puede!
Updates
Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment
Kindergarten registration is just around the corner, February 27, 2023! Younger siblings of CCE enrolled students, and any student eligible to attend DJUSD may register in our Spanish Language Immersion Program, regardless of language background. Students of varying abilities and needs contribute to the diversity of the community. Parents should understand that becoming bilingual (exhibiting cognitive, academic, and linguistic benefits of immersion) takes approximately seven years in an intense learning environment. It is therefore desirable for students to participate through at least the sixth grade.
While universal TK expansion is currently underway in DJUSD - Korematsu, North Davis, Patwin, Pioneer and Willett – César Chávez Elementary is hoping to open our expansion programs within the next two years. Please visit our DJUSD website
here to learn more about TK and Kinder enrollment in our District.
