Principal Dunn Update - February 20, 2022
Posted on 02/20/2022

Dear CCE Community,

Our campus has met the requisite 50% vaccination rate Dr. Sisson recommends for our district to remove the outdoor mask mandate beginning Tuesday, February 22. While outdoor masking is no longer mandated during the school day, it is still optional for students and staff to wear masks outside of the classroom during transitions to and from the MPR, between eating, during recess and PE. At this time, DJUSD staff, students and authorized volunteers are still required to wear masks indoors on school campuses (classrooms, office, MPR, counselor room, library, bathrooms, etc.) as directed.

César Chávez Elementary staff would like everyone to feel safe making the choice they are most comfortable with regarding masking outdoors, and that we are respectful of each other’s choices. It is not a requirement for site staff to manage parent requests for students masking or unmasking outdoors. Staff will only monitor mask wearing indoors at this time.

Outdoors, students may opt to mask all day or can be responsible to leave their masks in backpacks, or in pockets of their clothing, or wear them outdoors below their nose, chin, on their arm, around neck on breakaway lanyard, etc. Child sized medical masks will be available in indoor spaces and at outdoor stations around campus, such as on the playground, eating areas for students and in front of the school office.

In addition, lunch time assigned seating will no longer be in effect beginning Tuesday, February 22 as district-wide COVID-19 related protocols for lunchtime have been lifted. However, at CCE we will continue to have all 1st through 6th grade classrooms occupy the same snack/lunch tables in their designated classroom zones, with maximum seating of six students at each table. CCE staff will continue to offer students snack/lunch time seating accommodations during the outdoor mask lifted mandate and for the rest of the school year.

HDT asymptomatic testing will continue on our campus every Friday until the end of this school year.

We respectfully ask that CCE parents continue to submit their child’s COVID vaccine record if you have not submitted as soon as possible.

If your student(s) is not yet vaccinated, you can:

  • Attend the vaccine clinic on February 22, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Harper Junior High School MPR
  • Go to to register for the vaccine clinic and other clinics in our area
  • Visit the Yolo County Public Health Vaccination page

Thank you again for your continued attention to our school community’s wellbeing,
Sra. Dunn
