I hope you are having a great President’s Day 3-day weekend.
So many of our enrichment programs, schoolwide events, and scholarships for field trips are funded by César Chávez Elementary school’s parent and teacher association called, SIPAT (Spanish Immersion Parents and Teachers). While each year we hold a yearly “un-fundraiser” through SIPAT membership and parent donations, this year we are excited about our SIPAT Gala Dinner and Auction, “Night of Stars” scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Highlights
California Distinguished Schools Award Ceremony
On Thursday, February 16, Rashda Malik, CCE Kitchen Manager, and Angie Velasquez, CCE Kindergarten Teacher, joined me at the Disneyland Hotel ceremony to accept the 2023 CA Distinguished Schools Award from California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, and Yolo County Office of Education Superintendent, Garth Lewis. Micky Mouse was also able to make it!
CCE Chess Club
With support from DJUSD and Davis Kids Klub extended learning opportunities programs, CCE 3rd-6th grade students have registered and attended the first Chess Club session this week! The students learned so much about the game of chess and look forward to four more sessions over the next two months.

Andrés Chavez will be visiting César Chávez Elementary during our school’s César Chávez week. He will be our guest speaker to share the life and legacy of his grandfather, César Chávez. Save the date for Tuesday, April 18, 10:45-11:30 a.m., CCE MPR for the parent/guardian and community presentation.
