Principal Dunn Update - April 23, 2023
Posted on 04/23/2023
Dear CCE Families,

It was a very joyful yet busy César Chávez Week with Andrés Chávez assemblies, Open House Events including a mid-week safety drill. The students learned so much about César Chávez and were thrilled to showcase their work to their families at the CCE Open House on Wednesday. The 6th grade ice cream social fundraiser was a big hit, too!

A. Chavez

Over the weekend CCE 1st and 2nd grade students and teachers in Sra. Gnos’s, Sra. Leon’s, Sra. Ramirez’s, and Sra. Garibay’s classrooms participated at the Annual City of Davis César Chávez Celebration at the Saturday Davis Farmer’s Market where the 1st graders read a poem written by Francisco X. Alarcón, and 2nd graders performed a traditional folklorico dance. Also, we had a wonderful turnout at our 10th Annual Bike Swap organized by CCE parent alumna, Jill Bonner along with her amazing crew of present day and former CCE parents and student volunteers!

si se puede

Our core-values with the ¡Sí se puede spirit! allow our CCE members to build strong connections and support systems that form meaningful connections and positive school engagement. It is an honor to be a part of a community that commits to our school’s vision and mission to ensure our students are socially responsible life-long learners who embrace multiculturalism, Spanish and English biliteracy, and bilingualism.

Highlights

Sly Park

6th Grade Outdoor Education - Sly Park

CCE sixth graders, parent chaperones, and 6th grade teachers enjoyed their week at Sly Park Environmental Education Outdoor Science Camp in El Dorado county the week of April 10. What a fantastic experience for our students to learn outdoors at an overnight camp.

Updates

CCE Spring Book Fair - ¡Gracias!

Our spring book fair was a success! Thank you for supporting the CCE library! We hope your students enjoyed visiting the book fair. If your student still has money in their e-wallet, you can shop online and use those funds up or they will stay in your account. Our online book fair will be open through April 30th and can be accessed at this link. Be sure to check out additional Spanish titles available online.

Safety Measures at CCE

The CCE staff and I endeavor to improve our school safety measures and protocols to monitor students and volunteers on and off campus. With the expansion of facilities - new MPR, bike corral, two play structures, and extension of gardens - my goal is to work with the district, staff, and families to increase safety strategies with an open campus.

Here are some of the methods I aim to implement now and for the upcoming 2023-24 school year: District increase of hours for our CCE’s Campus Safety Supervisor to full-time, access to a campus bicycle for our Campus Safety Supervisor/Supervisors to reach all points of access on campus during the school day, donations and funding to purchase two dozen new campus radios, reinstating our 1st grade parent volunteer supervision Lunchtime Team, classroom and school wide student buddy systems and bell schedule to improve student flow in campus passageways during school day transitions.
