Dear CCE Families,
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend with loved ones near or far! On Monday, April 12, we will be re-opening our campus for staff and students with a Modified In-Person Schedule. The newly adopted Elementary Schedule has our in-person school day starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 11:00 a.m. for Kindergarten and 11:30 for 1st-6th grades.

A new CCE Return to Campus Family Handbook will be sent via email at the end of this week and posted on our CCE Website that will outline our school’s procedures and expectations for a safe return to school. Parents will receive their student’s schedule outlined with in-person, all class meeting and distant learning times and activities from their teacher by Friday, April 9.

Important Information

CCE In-Person/Distance Learning Request Form

Only complete this Google Form if you are interested in switching from Distance Learning into In-Person Learning at César Chávez Elementary, or switching from In-Person Learning into Distance Learning.

Families that requested to come back in person for the two day a week model, have been automatically assigned to five days a week in person, so there is no need to fill out this form. If you already requested Distance Learning and still want to remain in Distance Learning, you also do not need to fill out this form. Distance Learning requests will be honored immediately upon receipt and teachers will be notified by office staff.

In-person instruction placement requests will be reviewed by sites each Thursday in the order they are received. Families will be consulted and/or notified of in-person activation on Fridays. Please note that transition to in-person instruction relies upon class flexibility. Distance Learning requests will be consulted by parent in collaboration with school staff to support transition and family flexibility.

DJUSD Health and Safety Family Education Training Modules and Consent Form

I highly encourage our CCE families to view the DJUSD health and safety training modules on this site now. Families will also need to review this document (English) (Spanish) in its entirety with their child. When you have completed the Module Training, please return the Informed Consent form to our school office no later than the first day of in-person instruction. One form is needed for each student enrolled at CCE. Families/Caregivers may submit this form electronically to Lynn Alvarez ( and Cc to Veronica Dunn ( Our school office hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., where hard copies of these forms are available or to drop off the signed consent form for your student/s.

Emotional and Physical Safety and Wellbeing a Priority

To protect the emotional and physical health and safety of our CCE community, dedicated compliance with the our DJUSD Healthy Behavior Guidelines and DJUSD Partnerships with Care Solace and Healthy Davis Together will ensure these next eight weeks on our school campus are secure and protected from COVID-19 spread. Please make sure to review these resources and videos this week!

TUESDAYS at CCE, Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing: 8:00-12:15 and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Starting on April 13, asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing will take place near the front of our school between 8:00-12:15 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m. To keep our community safe, we recommend all our staff and students testing at least once a week. If you have not already signed up for an account, please follow the directions on this site so staff and students are ready to test the first week of school.

If you already have a Healthy Davis Together account, or need to sign up, Saturdays and Sundays, you can test at Mondavi, switch your account to DJUSD and receive a free gift card! This promotion is only available at Mondavi on the weekends. CCE’s testing day and time: Tuesdays, 8:00a-12:15p and 1-4p (or encourage testing at Vets for DHS and Senior Center for King and DSIS).

DJUSD 1-to-1 Technology Initiative, TK-6 Students Beginning on April 12

1-to- 1 Technology Initiative in Grades TK-2

Students in grades TK-2 will have access to an individual Chromebook at school in their classroom. They will not carry the Chromebooks between home and school. If any student needs a Chromebook for schoolwork to use at home, they may request to check one out if they do not have access (see location and hours below).

1-to-1 Technology Initiative in Grades 3-12

Each student in grades 3-12 will be expected to have an individual Chromebook or laptop, available to them for daily instructional use. Students will keep their laptop at all times for use at home and on campus each day. Students will need to come to school with their laptop fully charged each morning. In preparation for the launch of the 1-to-1 Technology Initiative for student in grades 3-12, we ask that parents of students in these grades choose one of the following options during the week of April 5:

  • Provide their student with a personal device (specifications noted in the Distance Learning and 1 to 1 Technology page of the Website).
  • Purchase a new Chromebook for the student (Purchase from CDW HERE)
  • Check out a DJUSD-issued Chromebook for individual use.
