Dear César Chávez Families,
Parent Conferences take place this week, Monday, November 18 through to Friday, November 22. All 1st-6th grade classes are dismissed early at 1:30 p.m. Our Kindergarten schedules remain the same.
As you know, the information exchanged during the conference is delivered within a limited time. Therefore, it would be favorable for you to be prepared for what you will hear from the teacher and what you would like to discuss. During your conference the teacher will share your child’s district report card as a base for the conversation. The teacher may also refer to various assessments or student work, and will let you know how your child is performing in relation to district benchmarks that have been set in reading, language, and math. They will also inform you about learner behaviors and social-emotional progress this trimester.
As the parent, you know your child better than anyone. If you have concerns of any type, think about ways to share them with the teacher in a manner that leads to positive problem solving. Moreover, if you take the time to write down your thoughts and your questions before coming to the conference or sharing them with your teacher in advance, it would enhance your collaboration with your child’s teacher.

Recent Highlights

First Trimester Attendance Recognition
As we strive to improve student engagement and attendance, this school year we will be recognizing all students with perfect attendance during the 1st trimester. Classroom teachers will deliver a coupon to a Davis Eatery with your child’s report card. In addition, classrooms with the least absences will be treated to a Popcorn party on Friday, November 22. We will continue to acknowledge positive attendance for all students and classrooms during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters as well. Congratulations to the students in classrooms - Velasquez, Ortiz, Cain, Garibay, Medina, Anderson/Ibarra and Lokkbakk for awesome, 1st trimester attendance!

Sra. Leticia & Her Recycling Is Simply Elementary (RISE) Helpers

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce to you Sra. Leticia, our César Chávez Elementary RISE coordinator who helps students recycle their lunch plastic, aluminum and paper including food waste to be composted during lunch at our lunch tables. Last school year, Sra. Leticia and the noon duty supervisors created a system where all students help sponge off and wipe down the lunch tables after dismissal to recess. All CCE students are chosen at least one time per school year to help out with lunch clean up. Noteworthy, are the students who consistently help each week with the RISE program! Sra. Leticia and 10 students were recognized last Friday for their effort to promote recycling, composting and taking care of our lunch area. We are so grateful to Max, Leif, Jay, Jack, Joaquin, Ben, Walker, Carmen, Mireya, and Callum for helping Sra. Leticia and your classmates and especially for demonstrating CARES at our school….GRACIAS!

Scholastic Book Fair this week!
The CCE Book Fair will be open this week. Look for the chilly, Arctic library door display at Room 22. The Book Fair provides our library with much needed funding throughout the year, so please support us by purchasing books at the fair and by volunteering! Our amazing Book Fair coordinators have set up a Volunteer Sign Up Genius, and we thank all those who have signed up for slots to help out. The students are really looking forward to finding some great literature and treats this fall.

2019 STEAC Holiday Program
César Chávez Elementary will be participating in a coat and book drive to benefit the STEAC (Short Term Emergency Aid Committee) Holiday Program. Please have your child bring to school any gently used/new winter coats (infants to adults) as well as gently used books (toddler picture books to literature appropriate for high school students). Your donations will make a difference for many Davis families this holiday season.
Please bring your donations to school by no later than Friday, November 22, 2019.
