Dear CCE Community,

Many Davis families and DJUSD-CCE staff members have been affected by the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit Fires in neighboring Solano and Napa Counties where they have lost their homes, been evacuated and are still sheltering or are trying to return to their homes only to find out they are still without power, water and internet access. Our community has been contacting and reaching out to these families and staff members this past week, and we appreciate all your offers to help those who are impacted. If you know of a family or staff member who is in need of additional care, please contact me or members of our school community to coordinate immediate relief for those who are affected. CCE is one of the most responsive school communities in times like these, we are grateful for your kindness and efforts during these challenging times.

With so much going on, our staff is arduously preparing for the opening of Phase 1, 100% Distance Learning on Wednesday, August 26. Families will be receiving information from your child’s/children’s teacher by tomorrow.

2020-21 CCE Family Handbook

DJUSD Families have received their Restart DJUSD Reopening Guide for Families in the mail this past week. César Chávez Elementary School has revised and updated a new CCE Family Handbook with additional information specific to our school’s Spanish Immersion Program, Distance Learning Plan, Staff Information, including district and school policies to begin the school year in Phase 1 – Full Distance Learning. You may preview the handbook here in this attachment.

Please ensure that you have both the DJUSD Reopening Guide for Families and the CCE Family Handbook on hand this school year. The most current CCE Family Handbook will be available on our CCE school website. Please understand that the Handbook is a “work in progress” and additional material, as well as Spanish Translation, will be added when appropriate based on the needs of our school in the Davis Joint Unified School District. Please call the school office to request a Hardcopy and/or Spanish Version Handbook to be sent to your home address.

Virtual Community Outreach – New MPR at César Chávez Elementary School on Northside of Campus

Over the last year, the DJUSD staff and community have focused a great deal of time working to determine the best placement for the new multipurpose room (MPR) at César Chávez Elementary School (CCE). A decision has been made to locate the MPR on the north side of campus.

The new multipurpose facility will include open space to accommodate assembly seating for the entire school (up to 650 students). This new and improved space will include a stage, music room, warming kitchen, staff, student and all-gender restrooms, as well as utility infrastructure improvements. The building design will be identical to that designed for Birch Lane, North Davis, and Willett Elementary Schools. We invite you to join a Virtual Outreach meeting to learn more.

To protect the health, well-being, and public safety of students, employees and community members and consistent with the current shelter-in-place orders from the State of California and guidelines from Yolo County, DJUSD Bond Program Community Outreach meetings cannot be held in person. To share information about the facility improvements at César Chávez Elementary a pre-recorded presentation has been posted on the Bond website at www.djusd.net/bond/outreach. Public comment, questions or concerns about this project are welcome and encouraged. We will be reviewing feedback emailed to facilityplanning@djusd.net until the end of the public comment period, Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
