Día de Muertos at CCE

The Wednesday, October 27 César Chávez Elementary, Día de los Muertos, after school event organized by our Spanish Immersion Parent and Teacher (SIPAT) association was a wonderful, socially distanced gathering of K-6 students, families, and staff at Redwood Park and CCE playground! This festive occasion is an opportunity for our students and families to learn and recognize the value of an ancestral, indigenous tradition practiced thousands of years ago by the Aztecs, Toltecs, Náhuatl-speaking peoples and ancient Mexicans where the lives of the deceased are honored and their memories are celebrated. A community ofrenda was crafted and many offerings of pan de muerto, cempasúchil flowers (marigolds), sugar skulls, music, dance and other arts and crafts were presented to the CCE students and families. ¡Muchas Gracias, SIPAT and CCE Parent Volunteers for making this event happen this year for our school community!
